Sep 06, 2017 The ArcMap and Pro Excel readers do appear different. I had an issue with opening an.xls file containing precip data, which had always worked fine in AM. In Pro, it insisted on reading all the precip values as text. I had to go to a CSV file to get it to read correctly. After you have added the Excel file to ArcGIS, right click on it in the table of contents and choose Properties, then the Fields tab. Click on each field to check that it is in the correct type (text or “double” which is a kind of numeric data type).
